The Amityville Horror, Black Toxic Mold and Your Mind. By RaDonna Fox

It is the Amityville Horror and Black Toxic Mold that has inspired this blog. There is an extreme lack of understanding and knowledge of the effects of Stachybotrys or Black Toxic Mold on the mind. Having lived in a home badly contaminated with Black Toxic Mold I have a clearer understanding of how this mold affected my mind and that of my husband and children; others living in such conditions have reported incidences of psychological effects of living with this mold.  All of us experienced nightmares, I personally experienced creepy feelings, or feelings that the home had a negative engery.  We lived by a cemetery and I wanted to blame it on that, until we found the mold.

My husband and I were reading a report trying to discredit the claims of black toxic mold victims, their main arguement was that ten to fifteen years ago, and farther back no one had ever heard of black toxic mold or complained about it, this is because back then they called a priest to rid the house of the evil spirits when anything could not be explained.  Even the bible even speaks of mold living in homes, back then were simply destroyed and not painted over.  The mold is not new, we have simply bridged the gap between the clergy and science.

It is here that I would like to say that it is my suspicion that the Amityville Horror incidents were due to the home being contaminated with stachybotrys or Black Toxic Mold, and the individuals living in that home went completely insane as a direct result of living in a home contaminated with Black Toxic Mold.

In the book The Amityville Horror and The Amityville Horror - The Final Chapter there are multiple reports of a black substance which after reading the books, it is not much of a stretch to consider it to be black toxic mold contamination of the Amityville Horror home.

It is here that "The sink beneath the mirror gushed filthy black ooze. The toilet flushed and splattered muck along the tinted porcelain. The shower door swung open and the nozzle twitched twice, and vomited out a long, thick black stream..."

And "Kathy leaned out the bathroom doorway. "What is it Danny? I said it's under the sink!" "No Mama! I found it! But the black's in your toilet, too! And it stinks in here!""

The Film Bullitin volumes 47-48 reports "The very walls of the house seeped with a strange ooze."

The list of evidence of mold contamination of the Amityville house goes on and on. Although it may be considered speculation on my part, and is really just that, looking back at the history and reports, the book speaks of what clearly appears to be black toxic mold contamination.

What strikes me most profoundly is how the individuals living in the home were so deeply affected psychologically, by what I consider to be a direct result of mold contamination of that home.   In no way am I suggesting that anyone who committed a crime was not liable, but I would like to say that the possiblity exsists that everyone who lived in that home may have been affected neurologically and psychologically by mold contamination.

It is prudent that I tell you of my educational background. Currently, I am finishing up my Masters degee in Counseling, and will be entering into a PhD or PsyD program for Counseling shortly thereafter.

The people who lived in the Amityville home were suffering from induced mental illness and the authors likely capitolized on some of the truths, but the pschological effect of the individuals who had lived in the home, in my opinion, were no-less profound.  Clearly, the Amityville home had what would be abnormal exposure levels.

What is not speculative, is the fact that Black toxic mold or stachybotrys does affect the mind.   There are multiple reports of people suffering from feelings of dread, death, and doom as well as psychological symptoms of hallucinations, anxiety, excessive anger or rage, hyper-irritability, as well as poor concentration and confusion.   Subsequent or repeated exposure increases the individuals sensitivity thus increasing their symptoms.

The above symptoms are by no means all encapsulating and does not include some of the other symptomology associated with exposure such as respriatory problems.

If you or anyone in your family is suffering from any psychological symptoms, please have your home inspected for water damage and mold contamination.

DO NOT DOWNPLAY the significance of the effects of this mold on the mind.
